Joke

A dog went to a telegram office, took out a blank form and wrote: “Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof.”

The clerk examined the paper and politely told the dog, “There are only nine words here. You could send another ‘Woof’ for the same price.”

The dog replied, “But then it wouldn’t make any sense at all!”

I was a bad dog…

It was really, really windy last night and I got very scared.  It makes me nervous and I pant and drool and pace.  No one except Hal can sleep.  I don’t know how Hal does it.  But she does.  Anyway, everyone got mad at me.  I am really, really sorry. It is still windy, and I am trying not to get nervous.   So far so good.  I am tired too.

Baseball season is only one week away!  We have watched some spring training games, but they are not as fun.  This year we are all managing fantasy baseball teams.  We all have three total teams.

I think I will do predictions this year.  Stand by for that.

Fantasy baseball

We have started work on our priority pick list for fantasy baseball.  I help.

Why does the water in the bowl outside on the deck taste so much better than the water in the house?  I test it every day, and sure enough, it tastes better.  Hal thinks so too.

It was cold and windy today.  Not long ago it was sunny and warm and we got to lay in the grass in the backyard.  It was nice.  We like the lawn.  It’s ours, but we are not supposed to pee on it.  I’m not sure why.

It’s almost dinner time, the best time of the day!

Bye,

Dave

Happy new year

Hello,

“Years” really don’t mean anything to dogs, but you should be happy anyway.  I am.  We walked all the way to the mailbox today.  It was hard, but fun.  We saw some deer when we were almost home.  My person tried to grab me before I ran after the deer and I fell down.   I’m okay.  We got to use our “really excited” barks.

So the A’s finally got a real 3rd baseman.  We were all wondering why they were stocking up on so many outfielders.  I think Eric Chavez should retire like I did.  He is in about the same shape as me!  You have to know when to quit.

Only 32 days until spring training!

Yankees

I think if the Yankees came into my yard, I would bite them.

Ha ha ha.

World Series

We didn’t watch it all, the World Series.  I didn’t know I could be disappointed.  I never heard of a dog being disappointed, but I think that is what it was.  It’s sooo much more fun when that Yankee team doesn’t win.  This World Series was boring.  The Yankee team is boring.  It has no soul.  One of our people says that cheering for that team would be like cheering for Exxon or IBM or Wall Street or something.  I don’t quite understand, but I get it a little.  I really don’t understand money.  What is it and why do people talk so much about it?

Anyway, baseball is over for this year.  Maybe next year will be better.  I think I would like to have a fantasy baseball team next year all of my own.  Or maybe I’ll share with Hal.

I got my shot today and got weighed (which is scary).  I am 85.1 lbs.  The Dr. also poked my ear with a needle and pumped out some blood.  It hurt, but I did not cry.  They told me it would make my ear feel better.  It’s been a little sore.

We came home and started a fire in the stove.  I like sleeping in front of the fire.  It feels good.  I think we will go for a walk soon.

Bye for now, from your friend,

Dave

Playoffs

I said I would tell you who I would like to win the baseball playoffs.  It is a few days later I think, but I will tell you anyway.  I liked the Twins, but they lost to that really Bad Team.  I liked that the Boston team lost today.  They are almost as Bad.  I don’t really know about the PHI-COL series, probably the Rockies.  I do think they should have played in the snow yesterday.  What’s wrong with playing in the snow?  I like playing in the snow (except the part about losing the ball in the snow).matt-holliday-blows-the-game

The best one was the Dodgers-Cardinals.  I liked the 2nd game.  We were just getting ready to go for a walk.  “Just wait until the end of this inning…”   We were excited anyway.  Then we were jumping up and down!  It was fun.  Turns out it all started with Matt Holliday not catching the ball.  When I was playing ball, sometimes I didn’t catch it.  That’s okay.  But he doesn’t always try.  I saw that when he was with the A’s.  He sometimes looked like he didn’t care about getting to the ball.  Always go for the ball.  Always.  I did.  Every time.  And I never got hit in the “stomach” when I missed the ball.

The best World Series would be Dodgers-Twins.  But I think that can’t be.  So I guess it has to be Dodgers-Angels.  The Angels are not a Good Team, but they are not Bad either.

Last day

It is the last day of the season (except for game 163 on Tuesday in MN).  A sad day.  It is cold here today and a little damp, just right for ball playing.  I do not know why there is a last day.  Why not play all the time?  How come they stop?  I would not stop.

I’ll let you know who I want to win in the playoffs after Tuesday’s game.  In that game I would like the MN team to win.

Here is a nice article about Black Dogs:   http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2009/09/18/notes091809.DTL.  It tells about how people think about black dogs, like what happened when our people tried to find homes for us after we found them.  That’s partly why they kept us instead.  We are glad they did.

Funny!

kendall_hrWe watch baseball on TV every day.  I like it.  Last night the Rockies-Brewers game was on.  Top of the 9th, Houston Street pitching, 2 on, score was 5-2 Rockies.  The people said wouldn’t it be funny if he allowed a home run to the batter, Jason Kendall to tie it up. And guess what… he did!  It’s funny because Kendall hardly ever hits home runs – he hit just 3 in the 2.5 yrs he played for the A’s (my favorite team).  And because Street got traded by the A’s for his tendency to cough it up!  So it was very funny.  We all laughed.

It’s almost the end of real baseball.  The extra stuff after the season is too fluffy.  Wouldn’t it be nice to just have the Yankees play the Dodgers (or whoever ends up with the best record) for a week and be done with it?  We wouldn’t have to hear a month of that annoying background noise on Fox.  It hurts my ears.

Hal came up with another plan.  She told me to walk really slow when I’m on the leash and act real tired.  Then I would get let off the leash so I can go sniff and pee on stuff.  Of course it works!  Hal is good.

It rained some yesterday.  This morning it was nice and cold and foggy.  We like it cold.  It’s better than hot.

Dave here, still, again…

Hello,

I haven’t been talking to you for awhile because I’ve been a little bummed.

Last summer, I had a problem with my back, and it made me not walk so good.  I think they called it FCE.  It was not fun.  I had to go a long way to the vet a bunch of times.  A couple of times my people left me there.  I don’t like that.

Anyway, since I don’t like to dwell on stuff like this, it looks like I am retired from ball playing!  My front elbows hurt, and my back leg doesn’t work like it used to.  I don’t know how to play ball softly.  I always play full speed.  So no more ball.  I also am not allowed to chase anything.  I go in the car every so often and get a shot.  I like going in the car.  I don’t feel the shot much.

Lately I have been feeling better.  So that’s good.  Hal is fine.  We have been getting less food for quite a while.  They tell us it is good for us.  I don’t know about that, but it makes eating really exciting, because we are always hungry.  I feel a little lighter than before.  They say that is good.

My favorite baseball team has not done very well this year.  I think they are in extended spring training for next year.  We still watch them.  I like the one who runs all the time!  Rajai.

Our people went away for a few days.  We stayed with Uncle Jim.  We like him.  This time he let us sleep in his room on the last night!  Our plan worked.  Hal said it would.  She is good with plans.

I am hearing talk about a “new dog”.  Wonder what that means.

Dave
